Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse/ violence, is a pattern of controlling and coercive behaviour used by one individual to gain power and control over another within a close relationship. This form of abuse can occur in various types of relationships, including intimate partners, spouses, family members, or cohabitants. Domestic abuse is not limited to physical violence; it can encompass emotional, psychological, sexual, financial, and verbal abuse as well. The impact of domestic abuse can be profound, affecting the physical and mental well-being of the victim and often extending to broader social and familial dynamics. Recognising the signs of domestic abuse is crucial to providing support and intervention for those affected.

Mental Health

Mental health refers to a person’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It involves the individual’s ability to manage stress, relate to others, make decisions, and cope with life’s challenges. Good mental health contributes to overall well-being, allowing individuals to realise their potential, work productively, and make positive contributions to their communities. Mental health is not just the absence of mental disorders; it encompasses a spectrum of conditions and experiences, ranging from optimal functioning to diagnosed mental illnesses. Taking care of mental health involves maintaining a balance in emotional, cognitive, and social aspects of life, seeking support when needed, and adopting coping strategies to navigate life’s complexities.

Homelessness

Homelessness poses significant challenges to individuals, affecting their physical and mental well-being. Successful reintegration efforts typically involve support services, such as job training, counselling, and community programs, to help ex-offenders rebuild their lives and reduce the likelihood of re-offending.
